Berlin’s Weltacker is expanding: The Ackerlabor is taking shape—right in the heart of Berlin, on the grounds of the Späth Nursery in Treptow.
But what exactly is the Ackerlabor?
Simply put: it’s a second plot of land managed by Weltacker Berlin e. V., where—in addition to a traditional mini-Weltacker—we’re exploring what agriculture might look like in the future—climate-friendly, diverse, globally connected, and locally accessible.
In 2024, a fire destroyed our Ackerhaus in Berlin-Pankow. It was a shock—but also a moment of clarity: Our educational work needs more space, more safety, and more opportunities.
The Ackerlabor is our answer: 660 m² of space for education, hands-on learning, and exchange. Here, we showcase farming methods from around the world that address the challenges of climate change—such as the milpa from Mexico, clay pot irrigation from Ethiopia, or the wheat-pea intercropping system from Germany.
Unlike the site in Pankow, which reflects current global agricultural practices, the Ackerlabor explores the question:
→How do we want to practice agriculture tomorrow?
It will be a place for learning, experimenting, and exploring new ideas—with workshops, group activities, and space for spontaneous discoveries. A learning space that doesn’t dictate everything, but invites people to get involved.
There is currently no public funding available for Ackerlab. We need your support so that we can build paths, plant crops, create educational materials, and launch workshops.
That’s why our fundraising campaign is now live on betterplace—and we’re grateful to everyone who’s helping us make this new learning space a reality.
Since 2022, the Weltacker Youth Council has been working with us—an exciting project that brings young people in Berlin together. They all share one goal: a voice in Berlin’s food policy!
