The new Weltacker traveling exhibition, “Heroes of the Underworld Who Keep the World Running,” conceived by soil expert Dr. Karin Pirhofer, set out on…
If we divide the world’s arable land among all people, each person would theoretically be entitled to 2,000 square meters. Everything that sustains us must grow on this land: wheat for bread, potatoes, vegetables, corn, and soybeans for animal feed, sugarcane, cotton for clothing, cooking oil, and even biodiesel.
In Berlin, Weltacker Berlin e. V. demonstrates at two locations how global agriculture works—and how it can become more equitable and sustainable: in Pankow in the north, where current global arable land use is depicted on 2,000 m², and at the Späth’sche Baumschule in the south, where a space for climate-adapted farming methods and the agroecological ideas of tomorrow is taking shape.
In this way, we highlight imbalances, showcase alternatives, and invite people to join the conversation. Here, children and adults alike can reflect on their land footprint and gain a better understanding of the connection between consumption, agriculture, and climate.
We have reason to celebrate: Weltacker Berlin e.V. has won the 2025 Berlin Nature Conservation Award!
This award highlights how important it is to talk about land equity, sustainable agriculture, and food—in a way that’s easy to understand, tangible, and accessible to everyone.
Thank you to the Nature Conservation Foundation and to everyone who has supported us and helped shape our journey!
We offer a variety of educational events. From April through October, we host guided tours and workshops at the Berlin Weltacker. Online seminars are held throughout the year.
Our programs are suitable for all age groups and group sizes, such as school classes, youth groups, companies, or seniors. We can also accommodate special requests—we’d be happy to advise you.
We also provide materials on the topics of agriculture, climate, and nutrition that you can use for educational purposes.
