2024 was our year for new momentum, strong networks, and inspiring ideas surrounding sustainable and mindful eating—from food equity and political factors to creative educational formats and sustainable consumption.
Through exciting events, we continued to expand our network and gained new perspectives during workshops and discussions. Our trip to Munich and Nuremberg, in particular, as well as the solidarity event in December, showed just how much we can achieve together.
Let’s take a look back at the highlights and events of the past year!
Our year got off to an active start with our participation in the “We’ve Had Enough!” demonstration, before we joined forces with the Food Policy Council to explore the design thinking method. This helped us think from new perspectives, plan our Youth Council year, and gather ideas. We didn’t want our nutrition education to remain purely theoretical—we wanted to bring it to life. We always kept this question in mind: How can we make a long-term contribution to a sustainable food transition?
We were able to successfully achieve
our goals over the course of the year by organizing concept days, tours, and group cooking events with young people.
Above all, we got creative this year! We developed and brought art project ideas to life: These ranged from visiting exhibitions to doing crafts together—which is where our loyal Youth Council mascot “Maxi” was born—to setting up an art project booth at Klunkerkranich, as well as painting and getting creative on the topic of food at Rooftop Neukölln!
In September and October, we continued with a vibrant networking weekend organized by the Zukunftspaket. We know that change requires solidarity—and that’s exactly why exchanging ideas with other dedicated youth groups is so valuable.
There were also countless wonderful moments within our own group, and we’re constantly reminded of how motivating that can be for any project. For example, we launched our cargo bike project and built a mobile cooking trailer—for flexible, culinary sustainability adventures! From now on, we’ll be offering “Küfa” (Kitchen for Everyone) at our events. A “Planetary Health Diet” garden plot at Berlin’s Weltacker—planted and regularly tended by the Youth Council—provided fresh herbs for our delicious vegan dishes.
In addition to many highlights, 2024 also brought challenges—most notably the fire at the Ackerhaus on the Weltacker, which deeply moved us all and was met with an outpouring of sympathy and support. We, too, wanted to do our part and collected donations for the reconstruction at our solidarity event in December.
It was an evening that will remain in our memories for a long time to come. We look back on our first art exhibition featuring our own collages on food policy, exciting speeches, and an enchanting evening accompanied by a Küfa and fantastic techno DJs.
We’d like to take this opportunity to extend a big thank you to all the donors and supporters who made our solidarity event in December possible! Thank you to Schilkin Berlin, Omar Saad, IVUB Property Management, Alnatura, and Märkisch Landbrot!
We thank all the helping hands and dedicated minds—not just for that one evening, but for the support that has been with us throughout the year and has strengthened us for everything to come!
And we’d especially like to thank Berliner Weltacker, which time and again helps us bring our ideas to life and makes everything we set our minds to possible!
Another blog post is coming soon—in it, you'll find out what we have planned for 2025 and how you can get involved! Be sure to check it out!
Since 2022, the Weltacker Youth Council has been working with us—an exciting project that brings young people in Berlin together. They all share one goal: a voice in Berlin’s food policy!
