We invite you to join us on an exciting journey underground! Who actually lives in the soil? Why is the edaphon—that is, the totality of all soil organisms—so important for our survival? And what role do soil organisms play in agroecology and our food supply?

We’ll explore these and other questions together with Dr. Karin Pirhofer in this interactive workshop. We’ll investigate life beneath the Weltacker, analyze soil samples using various scientific methods—including the soil microphone—and share our own experiences with soil.

Feel free to bring your own soil sample!

After the workshop, you will:

  • understand the connections between soil organisms, agriculture, and healthy nutrition,
  • be familiar with some key representatives of soil life and their functions,
  • be able to apply various methods for studying soil on your own.

We look forward to an exciting afternoon full of discoveries in the soil!

Note: This event is part of the 2026 Days of Agroecology and takes place within that context.
