How can we feed ten billion people in a healthy and climate-friendly way by 2050?
On this tour, students learn about the “Planetary Health Diet” (PHD)—a science-based dietary guideline that respects both human health and the limits of our planet. Using the 2,000 m² “Weltacker” as an example, the tour illustrates how much land is needed for different foods. Participants discover what makes the PHD healthy and climate-friendly, and at the end, they plan their own PHD meal to calculate the land requirements in concrete terms.
This program is inclusive and available in German or, if needed, in English.
Alignment with the Orientation Framework for the Global Development Learning Area
Topic areas:
Agriculture and Nutrition (Healthy Eating, Surplus and Scarcity, Consumer Protection)
Global Environmental Changes (climate change, planetary boundaries)
Political Governance, Democracy, and Human Rights (good governance, international agreements)
Goods from Around the World (Production, Trade, Consumption)
Core Competencies of Global Learning
Gaining Insight: Students recognize the global challenge of feeding a growing world population within planetary boundaries. They analyze the principles of the Planetary Health Diet and its impacts on health, climate, and biodiversity.
Evaluation: By reflecting on land use and the transportation routes of various meals and dishes, students critically evaluate different dietary strategies and policy solutions.
Developing Options for Action: Students can make concrete, sustainable food choices and advocate for equitable global food policies.
Information about visiting the Weltacker
Our farm tours take place in the morning from 10 a.m.to 12 p.m. and in the afternoon from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Since we’ll be outdoors, please wear weather-appropriate clothing—sun protection if it’s hot and rain gear in case it rains.
If you have any special requests—such as being unable to visit the Weltacker during the standard times—please indicate this in your inquiry.
The Weltacker in Pankow and the Ackerlabor at the Späth’sche Baumschule are accessible without steps. In rainy weather, maneuvering a wheelchair can be a bit difficult—we’re happy to help!
Costs and subsidies
We want everyone to be able to visit Weltacker—including groups that otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford the visit. Thanks to funding from theSenate Department of Justice and Consumer Protection, we’re able to offer these tours.
If your school or group can cover the cost of 150 € per tour on your own, we’d appreciate your support!

Directions
Since 2025, there have been two Weltäcker in Berlin.
The 2,000-square-meter Weltacker in the north is located in the Pankow Botanical Public Park at Blankenfelder Chaussee 5, 13159 Berlin. You can take the M1 tram to Nordend and then walk or bike about 1.7 km from there to the Pankow Botanical Public Park. Below you can see the exact route. Alternatively, you can take buses 124, 150, 250, or the M1 to Hermann-Hesse Str./Waldstraße and transfer there to bus 107 heading toward Schildow. It stops right in front of the entrance to the Volkspark (Caution! You’ll need to cross a 4-lane street without traffic lights here). By bike, it takes about 12 minutes from the Blankenburg S-Bahn station and 15 minutes from the Pankow or Schönholz S-Bahn stations.
And to the south is the 2,000-square-meter Weltacker on the grounds of the Späth’sche Baumschulen in Treptow. From the Baumschulenweg S-Bahn station, you can either bike for 8 minutes or take bus 170 or 265 to Baumschulenstr./Königsheideweg. You can also take the U7 to Blaschkoallee and catch bus 170 from there.
Our office is located in the rear building at Marienstr. 20–22 in Berlin-Mitte. The best way to get there is via the Friedrichstraße S-Bahn station.
For a small donation, we will also send you educational materials in print. Please use the order form, or alternatively, contact us at info(at)weltacker-berlin.de or by phone at +49 30 28482320.
