What do a wormhole in the universe and the Weltacker’s mobile “wormhole” have in common? Both open up access to a hidden world. But while one leads to distant galaxies, our wormhole opens our view downward—directly into the captivating universe of the soil.
Countless organisms live there—from springtails to fungal networks—that form the foundation of our food supply, our climate, and a healthy environment. Yet much of what happens in the soil remains invisible to us—and thus often goes unnoticed. This is exactly where our wormhole comes in: it makes the invisible visible, audible, and tangible.
With its playful exterior and scientifically grounded interior, it invites people of all ages to experience the soil with all their senses. The mobile tent brings microscopes, soundscapes, and “aha” moments to every corner of the city—and impressively demonstrates just how much life is teeming beneath our feet.
The Wormhole is the centerpiece of our educational project “The Wormhole on the Move: Exploring Soil Biodiversity with Berliners of All Ages” and helps people understand the soil as a fascinating and endangered ecosystem. It tours Berlin events and invites visitors to experience the soil with all their senses:
