“Milpa” is a term commonly used in Latin America to describe a traditional farming system based on crop rotation (especially for maize, beans and squash). This method has been practiced for centuries by various indigenous cultures and remains relevant in many rural communities today. In a traditional milpa, the aim is to grow different species in a sustainable and agroecological way, taking advantage of the natural interactions between them to improve production and reduce the need for external inputs such as fertilizers and pesticides.

We have over the years received many questions and comments about the challenges of growing maize, such as why the maize does not grow or why there are no cobs even on large plants. The problem that the milpa is only filled with beans and pumpkins is also familiar to many.

At Tlayolan, we have 13 years of experience in growing milpas and we want to share our knowledge and tips with you. The workshop is a great opportunity to learn more about the right growing methods and get your questions answered.

The workshop is organized by Tlayolan. You can find more information about Tlayolan at https://tlayolan.org.

This workshop will also be offered in German the same day at 10 am.
